A community coordinator, writer and educator, Jeremy Remy is a leader with exemplary public relations skills. In addition to extensive knowledge in a variety of writing forms, he has a passion for providing opportunities to people of all backgrounds while establishing a relationship with the community. An ability to inspire and motivate others toward excellence has created demand for him at Westminster College, the League of Utah Writers, the Rocky Mountain Peer Tutoring Conference and the Utah Arts Festival.
Select Experience
2007/09--SLCC Community Writing Center: Volunteer Coordinator. Build connections with individuals, institutions and organizations. Work with Director to expand programs as needed. Help organize and attend fundraisers and events. Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer staff to assist in programs including: one-on-one writing assistance, writing groups, community-driven workshops, and partnerships with other organizations. Oversee program logistics, hours and performance.
- Wrote and compiled volunteer training manual and developed an ongoing volunteer training program.
- Increased volunteer staffing by 550% since obtaining position.
2007/09--SLCC Community Writing Center: DiverseCity Writing Series Coordinator. Develop, organize and manage multiple, ongoing writing groups. Oversee mentor program and maintain communication through newsletter, blog, and regular site visits. Edit, design and publish a bi-annual anthology for distribution throughout Salt Lake City, and facilitate public readings.
- Ensured establishment and ongoing success of groups dedicated to assisting a variety of communities, including: youth, adult learners, veterans, environmental activists, LGBT, refugee and low-income communities.
- Increased open writing groups by 40% with no additional cost to the center.
2005/09--SLCC Community Writing Center: Writing Assistant Specialist. Support, motivate and educate people of all abilities and backgrounds who seek to use writing for practical needs, civic engagement and personal expression. Provide collaborative writing assistance, develop curriculum, and facilitate community education classes. Specialize in assisting ESL learners.
- Received Exemplary Program and Innovation Awards from the National Council of Teachers of English and SLCC.
2004/05--Utah State University: Classroom Facilitator. Assist professors from an off-campus site. Coordinate and proctor all aspects of testing for courses and certifications, in person and online. Manage, monitor, host, and provide technical training and support for classes via statewide satellite broadcast. Assist with student concerns and communication.
Qualifications
Communication. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both in person and via electronic correspondence. Friendly and competent. At ease with public speaking, media relations, conflict resolution and community organizing. Detail oriented and able to attentively record reports and prioritize workload. Comprehensive knowledge of editing and publication.
Technology. Extensive familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), Microsoft and Open Office. Working knowledge of HTML, Lotus Notes, and Pagemaker. Can easily transition from Windows PC to Mac, and competent with most programs and technology. Able to create a variety of electronic and print media for communication and marketing.
Interpersonal. Comfortable in leadership and collaborative roles. Flexible to directions, while a highly motivated and innovative self-starter, easily able to make multifaceted decisions in a variety of environments. Composed and able to diffuse high-stress situations. Aware and non-judgemental of diverse communities and the social, political and economic factors affecting them.
